The Special Victims' Unit is responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases involving sexual assault (both juvenile and adult), child abuse/neglect, elder persons abuse/neglect and developmentally disabled persons' abuse/neglect. All members of the unit are trained in the forensic interviewing of children, this skill carries over to interviewing those victims that have other special needs, i.e., developmental disabilities. Some members of SVU are part of CART, the Child Abduction Response Team. They are notified of all missing juveniles within Hunterdon County via Hunterdon County Communications, and it is then determined if a response is needed.
If you suspect child abuse, whether sexual or physical, contact the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) at 877-NJ-ABUSE. Reports may be made anonymously.
The Special Victims Unit also handles the Megan's Law cases for Hunterdon County.
