Welcome to the Hunterdon County Historic Court House. Best known for "The Trial of the Century." The famous Lindbergh Case where Bruno Richard Hauptmann was tried and charged with the kidnapping of Colonel Lindbergh's son, in 1932. Come take a walk through this historic site. Enjoy your visit!
Historic Hunterdon County Courthouse located on Main Street in Flemington, New Jersey
The Union Hotel, located directly across the street from the Historic Court House. Many of the trial participants, including attorneys, press and public stayed at the Hotel during the Trial.
Just inside the entrance to the Court House is this case which holds many memorabilia items from the trial.
As you walk up the spiral staircase to the second floor of the Court House you enter the impressive courtroom where the trial was held.
Located at the front of the courtroom just in front of the Judge's Bench is the chair used by Hauptmann during the trial.
The balcony located at the back of the courtroom is where most of the press were seated during the trial.
Hanging above the Judge's Bench is a portrait of Justice Thomas W. Trenchard who presided over The Trial of the Century.
As you look to the right of the Judge's Bench you will see the Jury Box which held the jurors who found Hauptmann guilty of the kidnapping. These are the original chairs used by the jurors.
This is one of the two Jury Rooms used during the trial for deliberations.
The Cell Block, located in the Old Jail, consisted of 4 extremely small individual cells. Hauptmann's cell is the first one to the right.
