Bald-Faced Hornet Nest

A nest of a Bald-Faced Hornet (Dolichovespula maculata). Bald-faced hornets are a type of wasp, so named for a white spot on their head. The nest contains layers of hexagonal combs covered by a gray paper envelope. Nests are used for one year only.
