Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) Seedpod

Seedpods from milkweed plants open up in fall to allow the seeds to settle into the ground and experience a period of cold weather before sprouting. In summer, monarch butterflies lay their eggs on this plant, and the caterpillars eat the leaves.
